SPANDAU BALLET

"TRUE"

This is probably a predictable choice but this album was just ahead of my second favourite Spandau album "Parade".  After the first two albums were almost medieval sounding, experimental and perfect New Romantic Pop, this third album was classy and the band's song composition and style was of the same calibre.  Like most of the 80s bands they evolved and grew up musically, which almost always loses the little girls who idolise the looks' makiing the media label them as a "boyband".  Spandau had great songwriting, great songs and great musicians, and should be recognised so.  The Jazzy Soul theme set the boys on the road to world domination.

The album contained the classic singles, the ultimate Pop ballad in "True" and the advertising companies' favourite much to its detriment, the singalong "Gold" (both showing Toney Hadley's incredible unique powerful vocals).  The former made top spot and the latter number 2.  "Lifeline" also made top 10 with its Pop summery style and sax and harmonies while "Communication" became an unsual Disco club classic, I remember the 12" version being awesome but it only reached number 12 in the singles chart.

"Pleasure" opened the album and set then classy stylish tone for this record.  A real snappy chorus and matches perfectly with the singles released from this set.

"Code Of Love" would be a great James Bond theme, slow and mysterious with fabulous vocals from Tony.

"Heaven Is A Secret" is a great song, complete with memorable chorus and clever harmonies, one of my favourites from the band.

"Foundation" is upbeat with a pounding drumbeat with an easy singalong chorus and Tony exercising his vocal range to the max, would have been a great Summer hit single I think.
