ECHOBELLY - "ON" 1995

 ECHOBELLY

 "ON"

1995

CAR FICTION - The opening track of this second album by the band has a distinct Punk vibe and very similar to a Blondie track.  The thumping, crashing rhythm of the guitars and drums back up singer Sonya Madan's unique vocals brilliantly.

KING OF THE KERB - The second single from the album is predominantly Brit Pop with hints of Blur and Supergrass and the Gothic arena style guitars.  Great track with a catchy chorus, it reached number 25 in the UK chart.

GREAT THINGS - The track that got me hooked on the band and the debut single from this set that reached number 13 in the UK chart and remains their highest chart hit to date. It is Pop, Rock and has a little Bangles style vocals and guitars.  Chirpy, catchy and brilliant.

NATURAL ANIMAL - A little more harder than the previous tracks.  This is a Grunge Rock style, big guitar driven stadium rocky song.  Has some nice, softer Acoustic moments but then hits it with the big noise.  Top track.

GO AWAY - This for some reason reminds me of the humorous, sarcastic early tracks (and later B-sides) of Adam Ant in his Punk times.  Driving, distorted guitars lead the track and Sonya gives an angry "little girl" vocal.

PANTYHOSE AND ROSES - Another Brit Pop style song with hints of Blondie, especially with Sonya's Debbie Harry-esque vocal.  Not as catchy as the previous tracks but still cool.

SOMETHING HOT IN A COLD COUNTRY - Sweet and melodious, and again a nod to Bangles with that light, fluffy Pop but with a harmonious Rock backing.

FOUR LETTER WORD - Another favourite of mine and should have been a single.  Has a great beat and pace, catchy chorus and holds your attention right through.  Sonya's powerful vocals carry this to new heights.  Brit Pop/Alternative Rock hybrid with almost an 80s New Wave sound.

NOBODY LIKE YOU - 90s Brit Rock style, the quirky vocal style with guitar driven backing.  Its cool and has a memorable chorus.

IN THE YEAR - This Grunge Rock/Brit Pop hybrid is anothe gem from the band.  Engaging heartfelt vocals from Sonya with a deep, steady dark rhythm.

DARK THERAPY - The third and final single from the album reaching number 20 on the UK chart.  Its a world away from the previous tracks.  A 60s style Psychedelic trance-like track.  Complete with Bangles style harmonies and a beautiful melody this is sheer class.  Should have been a much bigger hit, its a superb track.

WORMS AND ANGELS - A really lovely almost Acoustic ballad to finish off the album.  Delightful atmospheric effects and emotive vocals from Sonya make this a storming track to end.
