Neon North is an Alternative Indie Rock band and the project's brainchild is Spencer Lillo.  Spencer resides in Calgary, a city in the Canadian province of Alberta.  They have just released their debut single, "Traffic Lights".

I was searching for some info on the band before Spencer kindly got back to me to fill me in some details.  Upon searching I found an interesting note, that Spencer wrote the songs note by note using a sheet music program that allows midi playback.  Then he recorded all the music in his home studio and enlisted the help of his good friend, tenor vocalist Max Avery to sing the lyrics.

The single, "Traffic Lights" has certain elements that remind me of a few bands, Echo And The Bunnymen, Suede and Razorlight to name but a few.  I am not sure what Spencer's influences are but maybe there are some Radiohead and Coldplay parts in there too.  Its got all the aforementioned bands' traits such as the uptempo musical background and the slow drawn out vocals over the top.  If you're a fan of any of these bands mentioned then I would check Neon North out!

A 3 track E.P. including "Traffic Lights" will be released in the next couple of months and will be followed by a full album later in the year.  I am intrigued to hear more tracks, so let's wait and see where Spencer wants to lead Neon North, and in what direction.
