"NORTH OF A MIRACLE"
WHEN IT STARTED TO BEGIN - The opening track is an orchestral based, breezy Pop song, similar to Nick's former band Haircut 100 but more accomplished in style.
BLUE HAT FOR A BLUE DAY - One of my favourite 80s songs not just by Nick. A minimal, melodious Pop ballad, with a memorable chorus and great lyrics proving Nick was a very underrated songwriter and possibly still is. Lovely song.
TWO MAKE IT TRUE - A track with a slight Country twang interspersed with some bright jazzy Pop. Another great tune.
ON A SUNDAY - Reminds me a little of The Police and Men At Work with a little of The Cars, almost Reggae Pop Rock. Sophisticated and classy.
CLUB BOY AT SEA - Lots of different orchestral and effects but this is probably my least favourite on the album, its a slow tempo kind of Pop ballad. On such a great debut album this is probably my filler.
WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND - A simply brilliant Pop ballad, its lush backing and the atsmospheric chorus make it a gem. The song for me that proved that Nick could write intelligent and emotive songs. Brilliant production and one of my alltime favourite 80s songs.
TAKE THAT SITUATION - This funky, jazzy Pop foot tapper is another gem from the Heyward catalogue. The pulsating guitars and jazzy almost R n B backing works majestically with the lyrics.
THE KICK OF LOVE - Experimental Jazz Pop, has a little of everything and is more like a band jam. Interesting if not at first listen, memorable like the other tracks here.
THE DAY IT RAINED FOREVER - An eerie, sombre, melancholic track with a minimal quiet backing allowing Nick to the fore exploring his vocals. Sounds great in headphones.
ATLANTIC MONDAY - An effervescent Funk Jazz Pop workout to finish a fine debut album in style. Complete with Gospel backing vocals and various brass solos. Awesome.

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION "PURPLE RAIN" 1984 LET'S GO CRAZY - It's memorable opening line, "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..." well you all know the rest! A powerhouse of a track, blistering guitar solos and a backdrop of spiritual spoken words about God and all things religious. Just a superb track which has many "air guitar" moments for the wannabe Rock stars, even though by their blinkered standards he was never thought of as a Rock guitarist...quite ridiculous in my opinion. TAKE ME WITH U - A sultry Pop ballad sung with Apollonia Kotero. Jill Jones, Wendy and Lisa sung on backing vocals to add "sexy fullness" to Apollonia's vocal. It was released as a double A side with "Let's Go Crazy" and was often played on the radio as an alternative. Allegedly it was going to appear on an Apollonia album. Romantic, sultry and sexy, all in the best possible Prince taste! THE
OLIVIA RODRIGO "SOUR" 2021 BRUTAL - Olivia Rodrigo's debut album opens with a scorching 90s Brit Pop Punk track, reminding me of Elastica and Sleeper in its female angst ridden vocals. It also has me thinking of Wendy James and Transvision Vamp in its brash style. The former Disney star shows she has left that way behind with great Indie Pop Rock album with a few expletives thrown in for good Punk measure! TRAITOR - A slowed down tempo for this track, a beautiful, soft and melancholy Indie Rock track similar to Avril Lavigne in style with maybe a little nod to Kate Bush or Tori Amos in the atmospheric vocals? Love this track. DRIVER'S LICENSE - Perrfect Pop break-up ballad, Taylor Swift, Sophie B.Hawkins and Michelle Branch spring to mind on listening to this. Beautiful heartfelt vocals over a sparse, orchestrated style moody backing. Really nice and accomplished composition from 18 yr old Olivia and her debut single. 1 STEP FORWARD, 3 STEPS BACK - Another
ABBA "THE ALBUM" 1977 EAGLE - The album opens with one of my alltime favourite Abba songs. Its mystical, space age, almost sci-fi musical backing and effects really got my mind engaged. This is just a superb composition, and in headphones this whisks you away into the sky, free as a bird. Almost 6 minutes of class. TAKE A CHANCE ON ME - One of the band's most successful singles, a great sing-a-long memorable chorus and chug-a-chug style backing. Europop Disco at its best. ONE MAN, ONE WOMAN - Piano and synthesised led track with string parts make this a lovely ballad with Frida (Anni-Frid Lyngstad) on the leading vocals. THE NAME OF THE GAME - Such a clever song, so many different sections in the song, even the vocals are jointly led by Frida and Agentha Faltskog with solo parts too. There is a lot going on and is very complex if you listen closely. Another hit single. MOVE ON - This is a Waltz song that starts
