GUNS N' ROSES   "G N' R LIES" 1988 RECKLESS LIFE - The opening track to this second album featured on the band's E.P. "Live ?!*@Like A Suicide" along with the next three tracks.  This is a frenetic Classic Rock song with screeching vocals from Axl Rose and its pretty basic cliched rock fare sounding like early AC/DC.  Was a song from Hollywood Rose (the band that would become Guns N' Roses). NICE BOYS - This is a more Led Zeppelin styled song but with a catchy little chorus of "nice boys don't play rock n' roll!".  I quite like this track even though it is very raw.  This is a cover of Australian band Rose Tattoo's  track. MOVE TO THE CITY - This is a great Glam Rock/Blues style akin to Marc Bolan/T-Rex.  More accomplished than the previous tracks and more apt to the "Appetite For Destruction" album.   MAMA KIN - A cover of an Aerosmith track.  New Wave Pop Heavy Rock/Pop hybrid.  Another good track. PATIENCE -

510JAZZ - "JANUARY 16" 2018

Image
510JAZZ "JANUARY 16" 2018 RIGHT NEXT TO ME (Featuring Matt Blaque/D-Varg) -  The album opens with a medium paced Samba crossover with a big summery vibe.  It is a fun, bright and breezy number with hints of Michael Jackson ("Off The Wall" era) and Gloria Estefan's Miami Sound Machine.  D-Varg's rapping gives it an updated appeal to younger listeners who may not have heard music like this before. HE MADE IT ALL FOR YOU (Featuring Ricki Wegner) - A kind of Pop/Jazz feel to this track.  Its an easy going song and Ricki's vocals have that beautiful pure live sound of Norah Jones and also reminds me of the 80s band Matt Bianco in its style.  The minimal backing showcase the vocals brilliantly and make for a soothing chilled gem. PLAY SOMETHING BLUE (Featurung Maya Victoria/D-Varg) - This is reminiscent for me of the Trip Hop downtempo fusion of 90s band Morcheeba.  Maya's breathy vocals imitating the band's lead singer Skye

TURIN BRAKES - "THE OPTIMIST LP" 2001

Image
TURIN BRAKES "THE OPTIMIST LP"   2001     FEELING OBLIVION - Simply lovely opening track.  Reminiscent of The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel in its really sweet melodious harmonies.  Acoustic Folk Pop at its best. UNDERDOG (SAVE ME) - Slightly more leaning to a rockier sound with its chug-a-chug guitar strums.  Also a brilliant solo towards the end.  Love this song, one of the tracks that got me interested in the band.  It is chirpy, bright and makes you feel good, almost reminds me of The Monkees when they were serious about their songs.   EMERGENCY 72 - A kind of Jazz crooner-esque start with the vocals ahead of background music.  Then the music comes to the fore and and it turns into a 60s/70s style hippie sounding ballad. FUTURE BOY - Mystical and Asian influences here as well as a little Country Folk.  Not one of my favourites, this still fails to grab me for some reason. THE DOOR - 70s style Acoustic Classic Rock bal

ONOFF - "REBORN" 2017

Image
ONOFF "REBORN" 2017   KEEP THAT FIRE BURNING - The first track is a little New Wave Punk with the power and angst ridden vocals of The Clash.  Awesome Hendrix-like guitar parts at around the 2 minute mark.  A rockin' Punk masterpiece to open the Irish band's second album.  Its brain busting maddening pace give you a mindblowing intro to this album.  Parts also remind me of Foo Fighters and Green Day.     HAYLEY - A throbbing drumbeat reminding me of Iggy Pop, with vocals from lead singer "Paulie" sounding very much like Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump.  A frenetic pace continues throughout the song with slight hints to Foo Fighters and snippets of Classic Rock.  A little funky Rock Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queens Of The Stone Age influences too I suspect too.  Brilliant track with super guitar solos.         INNOCENCE - New Wave Punk, sounding a little like Goo Goo Dolls.  Well crafted track that is becoming a favourite of min

TRANSVISION VAMP - "VELVETEEN" 1989

Image
TRANSVISION VAMP "VELVETEEN" 1989     BABY I DON'T CARE - It was bold, brash, guitar riffs a plenty and Wendy giving her best angry vocal and a massively catchy sing along chorus! Guaranteed to get the party started with crashing guitar Punk Pop.     THE ONLY ONE -  Elements of Motown and Soul disguised in the throbbing, driving drums and guitars and memorable chorus.  A frenetic Punk Powerpop following on from the album opener, one of my favourites from The Vamp.   LANDSLIDE OF LOVE - A slower song than the previous two.  Again, the Motown and Soul elements were there but more at the forefront.  A really nice song that gives Wendy James chance to let go her sultry, seductive side in the vocals. FALLING FOR A GOLDMINE - Slow paced soft Blues/Country hybrid with hints of Punk.  Great chilled track. DOWN ON YOU -  Pure Punk Rock with Wendy snarling her way through the lyrics with pumping drums and guitars and electronics backing her wi

KRAFTWERK - "THE MAN MACHINE" 1978

Image
KRAFTWERK "THE MAN MACHINE" 1978     THE ROBOTS - The album opener kicks off with a similar synth style that Thompson Twins would master a few years later.  A quirky robotic (obviously) melody throughout with the occasional synth Funk elements.  The chorus when it comes is basically "we are the robots" but it still sticks in your head!      SPACELAB - A track that has a futuristic Disco beat but the almost melancholic melody over the top and eerie sci fi segments make this unique.  It is structured almost like a Pop ballad, its emotive in a weird kind of way.  Classic Kraftwerk genius. METROPOLIS - This starts off in almost cathedral likefashion before launching into a mid tempo Pop synth ballad mostly instrumental track.  Maybe inspired by Fritz Lang's 1927 masterpiece movie "Metropolis".   THE MODEL - The track that was so far ahead of its time it became a massice hit and reached number 1 in the UK four years later.  U

MARILLION - "FUGAZI" 1984

Image
MARILLION   "FUGAZI" 1984 ASSASSING - The band's second studio album opens with their second single from the set.  It reached number 22 in the UK chart.  A big and brash anthemic track that combines their unique Progressive style with Classic Rock and a pounding drumbeat.  A powerful chorus and various vocals in his own inimitable style from Fish.  A brilliant track and a big favourite of mine. PUNCH AND JUDY - The debut single from this album that reached number 29 on the UK chart.  This is a more familiar modern Progressive Rock track with its medieval styled backing.  Still has a catchy chorus but its not as radio-friendly as the opening track but a classic to Marillion fans. JIGSAW - A lovely slow ballad kicking into a mini Progressive Rock opera.  So many changes in the song and vocals make this a brilliant experimental 6 minute jam.  Keeps you captivated to the last. EMERALD LIES - A mild, sprinkling soft intro until just after two minutes in when it kicks off

KANE - "AS LONG AS YOU WANT THIS" 2000

Image
KANE "AS LONG AS YOU WANT THIS" 2000   AS LONG AS YOU WANT THIS - A storming opener to the Dutch band's debut album, a classy Alternative Rock track showcasing Dinand Woesthoff's fabulous husky vocals. CAN YOU HANDLE ME - Great Pop Rock track with awesome melodies and harmonies.  Catchy chorus and a foot stomper.     DAMN THOSE EYES - Absolutely gorgeous mid tempo Pop Rock ballad.  Big, anthemic and memorable.  Simply stunning.       HANDS - Reminds me a little of INXS at their peak.  Great mid tempo and another top singalong chorus, these guys know how to hook your ears. WHERE DO I GO NOW - Half Acoustic, this track is almost Grunge Rock, with a little segment of Classic Rock guitars thrown in forgood measure. I WILL KEEP MY HEAD DOWN - An atmospheric Progressive Rock/Classic Rock track.  Some great Acoustic guitar interspersed with searing solos. NOT HERE - A beautifully constructed Rock ballad, great melodies and Dina

FOO FIGHTERS - "THE COLOUR AND THE SHAPE" 1997

Image
FOO FIGHTERS "THE COLOUR AND THE SHAPE"   1997     DOLL - The opening track is a half whispered demo style track that is a nice gentle Folk-like introduction to the band's second album.  Coming in at almost 1 and a half minutes this is a very short opener. MONKEY WRENCH - This is actually one of my favourite Foo tracks, an almost Punk Rock number, the chugging backing track and Dave Grohl's angry vocals linking into a quite catchy chorus.  Love it. HEY, JOHNNY PARK! -  A loud, brash opening merges into an Acoustic backed vocal track before kicking in again with a 90s Grunge style chorus and back again.  It see saws like this before the mega Rock ending. MY POOR BRAIN - Bright and breezy 60s style hippie verses and a massive Hard Rock chorus.  Lots of gutiars, feedback effects and a thumping drumbeat with the usual clever veiled Foo melodies.  It's almost Punk gearing to its end! Awesome. WIND UP - Elements of Classic R

NO DOUBT - "TRAGIC KINGDOM" 1995

Image
NO DOUBT  "TRAGIC KINGDOM"   1995       SPIDERWEBS - The opening track has the previous album's styles of Ska and Reggae but with a Classic Rock, almost Progressive Rock backdrop at some points.  Its a high tempo manic starter for what's to come! EXCUSE ME MR. - A bouncy uptempo Classic/Pop Rock track that has slight elements of quirky Jazz moments, brilliant. JUST A GIRL - New Wave Punk track similar to tracks by early Blondie, frenetic with Gwen Stefani's angst ridden vocals lifting the song to bigger heights.     HAPPY NOW? - A Pop Rock track that reminds me both of Blondie and Bangles, melodious and a catchy harmonised chorus, great tune. DIFFERENT PEOPLE - A throwback to the previous albums, a quirky Ska/Reggae song with the minimal rocky sound in the background this time.  Takes you back to Selecter and The Specials times. HEY YOU - Psychedelic 60s Pop Rock, with some great Classic Rock vocals from Gwen. TH
